Over - (2015)

3 act Narrative structure (going backwards in time; reverse structure)

1st - Serene and picturesque neighbourhood setting, establishing a sense of normalcy and tranquillity. The introduction sets up the environment, hinting at a sense of impending tension

2nd - Forensic investigation team causes rising tension, disturbing the calm ambience. Cinematography becomes more intense and suspenseful, using close-ups and handheld camera movements to create a feeling of unease.

3rd - We realise how the man died at the last minute

Cinematography:

Wide shots used to show the setting's significance

Key themes:

Fragility - through the forensic investigation, the film explores the vulnerability of security in our everyday lives, reminding us that unexpected dangers may lurk beneath the surface of tranquillity.

Fear and curiosity - The film highlights the duality of fear and curiosity, showcasing how these emotions can intertwine and lead individuals

Establishing wide shot, establishing key themes behind the narrative. The use of the time being inserted gradually implies that the cause of the death will be revealed at the end. The use of slow editing and long takes means that suspense can build as long as a sense of obliviousness; we only realise what the cause of the death was at the last minute

Intercutting between forensic bags and the police provides a correlation between the victim and the location. It makes the spectator more empathetic to the situation as more personal aspects of their life are being expressed.

The final act shows the cause of the accident. This short film is heavily inclined to show and not tell explicitly, so the body falling from the plane is enough to explain everything that happened. This take is extremely long to amplify the shock caused.
