The Fly - (2014)

The sound design is particularly notable, with a combination of diegetic and non-diegetic sounds that create a sense of realism and amplify the emotional impact. Furthermore, the production design, though seemingly simple, effectively portrays the ordinary setting that serves as a backdrop for the unfolding narrative

Narrative structure:

1st = Introduces main character and sets up the central conflict

2nd = Delves deeper into the escalating conflict, as the man's attempt to rid himself of the fly become increasingly futile. Heightens tension and builds anticipation for the resolution

3rd = Closure to the narrative, with a surprising and thought-provoking twist that challenges the audiences expectations

Continuity editing, ensures smooth transitions between shots and scenes, enabling the audience to follow the story effortlessly. The use of visual cues and symbolism further enhance the narrative, with subtle hints and clues that invite interpretation and engagement from the viewer. Subjective camera shots and carefully selected angles provide a glimpse into the man's perspective, effectively engaging the viewer in his emotional journey.

Close up showing him frantically tapping the steering wheel, showing his nervousness. Diegetic sound extremely prominent; engine, the fly, the windscreen wipers, the jammed car horn, heavy breathing

Close up with toothpick, foreboding it as a later importance (Chekhovs gun). Cuts frequently, short shots, increasing tension and suspense

Mid shot, sound of sirens, flying money, slow, minimal movement to increase tensions

Use of reflection in the broken mirror shows the toothpick in his lip, close up
